Fidget Quilt

A fidget quilt or activity  blanket is a lap quilt that provides sensory and tactile stimulation for the restless hands of someone with Alzheimer's and /or other forms of dementia, ADD, or an autism spectrum disability.   We desperately need another 20 blankets for local seniors.

Date:  Friday, October 18th  

Time: 10 am to 2 pm

Instructor:  Zita Warmke

Fee:   FREE a $5.00 donation is appreciated  but not necessary

Supply List:


  • Sewing Machine
  • Basic Sewing Supplies (needle, thread, scissors, pins etc)
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Sew Always and Zita Warmke will be providing scrap fabrics and some tactile simulators.   If you have on hand  Zippers, Large Beads, Velcro, Large Buttons, ribbons, or ric rac (really any item that is can be sewn into a quilt and be machine washed) and you are willing to donate please bring them to the class.

We hope that you will donate your class project to our local seniors.  This is a great opportunity to learn a skill that can really help others.

Technique of the  Month Class

October: Machine Applique with fusibles

Dates:  Thursday, October 17th part of the  of 3rd Thursday of the Month  classes

Time:  3 pm to 5 pm

Instructor:  Connie Steadman

Fee:  $15.00 per class

Supply List:

  • Teach Me To Make  My First Quilt by Pat Sloan ( for beginning quilters only)
  • Sewing Machine
  • Basic sewing supplies ( pins, thread, scissors)
  • Rotary cutter 
  • 2 fat quarters

Sew Always and Connie Steadman have joined forces to provide a new way to take classes.  Each month will be a new technique, so you can take  only the classes that appeal to you.  This class will  (hopefully)  run until  the  basic , intermediate, and the advanced techniques you have always wanted to learn have been covered.   The later start time will allow for the occasional sneak away from work with out missing an entire day.  Come join us for this unique way to learn to quilt beginner to advanced.   October's class will cover machine applique using fusibles.  November will feature the rail fence block.  The class will not meet in December.

Announcing a New Group to meet at Sew Always

Nancy Glaspie will be starting a Free Motion Quilting Club that will meet at 10:00 am on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, beginning on September 17th.  It's free to all who wish to join! Each month the  group will discuss tips and different quilting patterns.  After the discussion time, you can practice the different designs on a quilt sandwich.

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing.  Since QOV has started over 190,000 quilts have been presented to veterans. 

You can be a part of that too.  Volunteer your time every 4th Wednesday of the month at Sew Always between 1 pm and 5 pm .  Bring your sewing machine and supplies and help us fulfill a much needed duty.
